Established in 2002, the city of Santa Clarita opened its Film Office to create an environment in which film, feature and television productions have an affordable setting in which to be successful. The office also works to balance the needs of the community and its residents.

The film program builds upon the tradition of movies which once filmed frequently in the area, and the film industry generates valuable revenue and jobs for the city and its residents.

A film incentive program was approved by the City Council in 2009 as part of the economic development 21-Point Business Plan for Progress, aimed at attracting and retaining production in the city.

Incentives include elimination of many permit fees for feature and television productions based in Santa Clarita, if a majority of the production’s scenes are filmed locally and a local crew is hired.

In 2007, the city’s film program was recognized as the best economic development program in the state by the California Association for Local Economic Development.
