Liberals’ last card

Contrary to popular opinion — and recent polls — there is a bright spot in the Obama administration’s hijacking of America (no, his eclipsing Jimmy Carter as the least-competent president ever is not the bright spot I’m talking about): 70 years of the liberals’ efforts to implement socialism, Marxism, collectivism, statism or redistributionism — whatever term you prefer — has succeeded. It has succeeded in its implementation but failed in its outcomes.

The left, as well as the rest of the country, now has 20 months of actual evidence that not only does liberalism fail as an intellectual and philosophical pursuit, it fails in the crucible of hands-on, practical application, as well — something conservatives have known for decades.

Liberals own the executive branch, the House, the Senate, the media, academia, the entertainment industry, banking, automobile manufacturing, the unions, the mortgage industry and the environmental movement — and they are still foraging for their first crumbs of real success.

The above notwithstanding, liberals do have one possible face-saving card up their sleeves: Admit defeat, embrace even a semblance of the conservative philosophy and try to salvage an atom of success from the Obama years by collaborating with conservatives to 1. return America to its historical reverence for natural law, the Constitution and personal morality; 2. recognize the importance of individual responsibility; 3. help create meaningful opportunities for economic prosperity for all without playing the class envy card or increasing our runaway debt; and 4. reprise our role as leader of the free world with both our allies and our enemies.
