When Peyton Stinson won a new bike after a raffle contest last month, the first thought in the 8-year-old's mind was that he was the proud owner of two bikes, given the one at home he had.

But after some thinking and discussion between Stinson and his parents, Kirk and Nicole, the third grader decided to donate it to the Domestic Violence Center's Safe House for the children of clients to use.

"I felt happy that I could make kids happy that I gave them a bike," Stinson said.

Nicole Stinson believes the raffle win turned into an opportunity for her son to learn about giving.

"We started to explain that there are people who don't have bikes," she said.

After giving him a list of local charities to give back to, Stinson said Peyton chose the Domestic Violence Center.

"It's interesting to me that he chose that charity," she said.

Peyton's parents are proud of his donation and hope it created a learning experience for their youngster.

"It's important that he appreciates what he has," she said.
