Get well and get out of that hospital

I read with interest the letter to the editor from Vernon Donnelly (July 24). Mr. Donnelly, I certainly hope you are feeling better now after your Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital experience.

I am a 25-year resident of the Santa Clarita Valley, and my experiences at the hospital have been less than stellar.

It seems to be a “do-it-yourself” hospital. It has always been that way. If you don’t do it yourself, it doesn’t get done.

Our last experience was in 1999, and all I can say is it was less than good.

The hospital needs to be expanded. But it is not the hospital that is being expanded. It is the doctors’ offices and parking lots.

Yes, they might be adding 120 beds to the hospital, but with the growth in the valley, that is a very tiny drop in the bucket.

We either need a new, larger hospital, or the one we have needs to be expanded by more than 120 beds.
They’ve already taken away the Transitional Care Unit. What’s next? The trauma center? Emergency? The Intensive Care Unit?

No, it is not the hospital expansion I am against. It is the expansion of all those offices and parking lots.

Mr. Donnelly, feel better real soon. I wouldn’t want you to have to go to Newhall Memorial again!
