Nearly three weeks after winning the Mustang World Series, the William S. Hart PONY League Mustang All-Stars can go even higher.
They are the first Hart PONY League team to ever compete in the National Youth Baseball 10U Championship, which begins today in Memphis, Tenn.
The National Youth Baseball Championships are supported by Major League Baseball.
"It's incredible. We have a team van and took it to the field we play on and the kids all got out. They were super excited," said Hart Mustang head coach Jerry Miller.
Hart Mustang opens up with a 1 p.m. Central Time game against Shreveport, La. from the Dixie League.
The National Youth Baseball Championships are a true national championship made up of some of the countries' best known youth leagues - PONY, AABC, AAU, Babe Ruth, Dixie, NABF, USSSA and Super Series.
Pool play begins today, leading to the semifinals and finals on Saturday.
A major difference for Hart Mustang is it regularly plays on fields with 60 feet between the basepaths and 46 feet between the rubber and home plate. This series has 65 feet between basepaths and 48 feet from the rubber to the mound.
"I think we'll be OK," Miller said. "The past two weeks we've practiced it."
