The College of the Canyons Foundation has given Diana Cusumano the college’s 2011 Silver Spur Community Service award for her volunteer efforts in education.

“Diana is not only a tireless, dedicated volunteer, but also ... a leader who inspires others to give of themselves,” College of the Canyons Chancellor Dianne Van Hook said in a written statement.

Cusumano, who is president of a local decorative arts company, has served on COC’s Foundation board, Library Associations committee and Education Scholarship committee. The former high school English teacher also served as president of the Wiley Canyon Elementary School Site Council and helped established the Newhall Elementary Education Foundation. She has been a member of the Hart High School Parent Association board and the Hart Auditorium Angels, volunteered at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, along with other local boards and foundations.

“Diana has integrity, and is a person of her word,” Van Hook said. “She never compromises her standards of care, compassion, commitment and quality.”

The 2011 Silver Spur celebration will take place at the California Club in Los Angeles. For more information on purchasing tickets or sponsoring the celebration call (661) 362-3434.
