The Rotary Club of Santa Clarita Valley will dedicate a section of its community garden to local fallen veterans on Aug. 25.

The dedication service will begin at 11 a.m. at the Rotary Garden next to The George A. Caravalho Sports Complex, located at 20880 Centre Point Parkway in Santa Clarita.

“It’s going to be short, sweet and solemn,” said Jim Lentini, the club’s veterans program chairman.

The Rotary Club received the permission from nine veterans’ families for the dedication. Granite tiles have been engraved with the names of those nine vets. A headstone will be also be dedicated to all military men and women who have died since Sept. 11, 2001.

The community garden was built in 2005. Lentini said he hopes those who visit the garden and see the section dedicated to local vets would be reminded of their sacrifice.

“This is a personal sacrifice that these families and individuals have made for our community and our nation,” Lentini said.
“Lest we ever forget.”

Lunch will follow the dedication service in the Community Room at 11:30 a.m. Lunch tickets cost $30. At 1 p.m., Lentini will present an overview of the Rotary’s vet program to help young veterans returning from service.
