A 37-year-old Lancaster man was seriously injured Tuesday when his car crashed into the back of a gasoline tanker on Highway 14 north of Escondido Canyon Road in Acton.

An official CHP news release issued earlier erroneously stated May had been killed as a result of the collision.

Boris Tomas May is in intensive care at the Antelope Valley Hospital after he was airlifted there about noon Tuesday, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

May was driving north on the freeway at about 70 mph when he crashed into the back of the tanker, which was going about 25 mph.

All lanes of north and southbound traffic were closed for 15 minutes so a helicopter could airlift May to the hospital, according to the CHP release.
