Call the water police

After reading the Aug. 15 article "‘Fair and firm' cash grab" on the proposed and present water-use enforcement, I have a few comments. With the increased water rates and shortages, many residents have cut back watering lawns until they die or turn into dirt patches. Others have changed grass for rocks as their forced alternative landscaping choice around their houses.

But just look at commercial-building sites, parks and city medians along the roadways. How often has your car got "washed" by sprinklers running excess water out on the streets or down the gutters? Tell the water cops to start with those areas first, and leave us homeowners who are trying to do our part alone.

Remember the stupid incident that happened in Los Angeles recently when a homeowner was cited by the water police for washing his car on his front lawn (trying to save water) only to find he was watering on a "no water day"? I know we have a critical water problem. Everyone must do their part.

I just hope common sense and not shoot-from-the-hip methods prevail in how these policies are enforced in Santa Clarita.
