The city of Santa Clarita will host the Celebrating YOUth Sports Festival on Saturday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Central Park.

The Celebrating YOUth Sports Festival is a great opportunity for the community to attend a free, family oriented event that provides children a chance to experience a variety of different recreational sports and activities offered by the city.

Festival activities include the Football Fun Zone with a Dick's QB Challenge, Field Goal Kicking, and 40 yard dash; the Make a Splash Zone with Dunk the Life Guard, balloon toss and other water fun activities; and the Children's Fun Zone, which includes face painting, crafts and organized games.

The Wild World of Sports Zone is jam-packed with a HomeRun derby, JetHawk Speed Pitch, Soccer Shootout, Big Ball Volleyball and Vista Valencia Golf Driving Range. There is also an Exhibition Clippers portable basketball court and tennis instruction by Global Tennis.

"By participating in sports, youth learn the value of hard work, self-discipline, self-motivation, and respect for others," Mayor Laurene Weste said. "This creates a foundation for personal development and a commitment to a healthy, productive lifestyle."

Food vendors, music, stage entertainment, inflatable bouncers, a raffle benefiting the SCORE program, a variety of sports oriented games and other fun recreational activities will round out the day.

Sponsors include the Los Angeles Clippers, Lancaster JetHawks, Dick's Sporting Goods, Vista Valencia Golf Course, Magic Mountain and Global Tennis.

Stage performances will include youth who participate in some of the city's programs such as Hawaiian Dance, Martial Arts, Kids Love Soccer, Waller's GymJam, Fun and Fitness, Hoop Dance and Jazzercize.

The Celebrating YOUth Sports Festival is held to recognize and celebrate all local youth sports participants, as well as their achievements and commitment to a healthy lifestyle. The event is designed to bring the city's young athletes of all abilities and levels of expertise together to celebrate Santa Clarita's youth sports community.

Central Park is located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Rd., Santa Clarita 91390.
