A traveler thanks Newhall for its hospitality

This letter is to thank the good people of Newhall for their kind treatment of a traveler in need.

In the pre-dawn hours of July 19 on the Golden State Freeway, I hit some debris. I did not know then that there was a problem until my car’s sensors told me that I had low air in the front tire.

I exited the freeway at Lyons Avenue in Newhall and made my way to the Wal-Mart store. I met with the manager, who looked at the tire and said he did not have that size in stock.

He said if he pulled it off and found it was not repairable he could not put it back on, so he referred me to Mountain View Tire at 23440 Lyons Ave., Newhall, a Goodyear dealer.

When they opened, I was immediately taken care of and the work was started. There was another customer who had an appointment who should have gone first but who yielded to my needs.

I was sure that the clerk was going to come back and tell me I needed a new tire, but instead (he) came back in about a half an hour and said it was fixed. He could have sold me a new tire and I would have trusted his judgment and been out the extra expense.

I made it the rest of the 700 miles home with no problem. On Tuesday evening I received a call from the tire store asking if I made it home and was everything all right.

I was impressed with the fact that a tire store in Newhall, which may never see any more business from this traveler, would take the time to do a follow-up. The honesty, professionalism, courtesy, friendliness and concern of these fine businesses was very much appreciated.

If I lived in the area I would certainly give them my return business. A great big “thank you” to the folks in Newhall for helping me get back on the road in short order.
