A 23-year-old Palmdale man was arrested Tuesday night after a short pursuit near the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Sand Canyon Road, authorities said.

Gilbert Joseph Sepulveda was arrested on suspicion of evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for public safety and driving under the influence after he failed a field sobriety test.

Deputies tried to pull over Sepulveda’s grey Acura Integra after authorities saw him drive through two red lights, said Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Sepulveda was driving about 80 mph — 30 mph faster than the posted speed limit, Cambra said.

Sepulveda was arrested after a short pursuit after he did not immediately stop his car when prompted by deputies.

He is being held on $35,000 bail, according to arrest records.
