Where do I start, O’Brien?

Regarding R.K. O’Brien’s letter “My take on the hospital issue” (May 21): Where to start?

You wrote: “I’ve lived here for 20 years and other than those who work at the hospital, I have yet to speak with any resident who is in favor of this project.”

I’ve lived here 26, years and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t think expanding and improving the hospital isn’t a great idea.

Does that trump your statement, which you seem to feel trumps The Signal’s editorial?

Then there’s this little gem: “Your statement that the hospital project has been approved by the city is not entirely accurate either. It has been approved by the City Council” — which has been elected to speak for the city. Your statement is incredibly fatuous and inane.

If you’d lived here longer than your so-proudly-proclaimed 20 years — long enough to have been here before the city was incorporated — you’d know how bad things were when we were represented by only one elected official — Michael D. Antonovich — out of the five supervisors governing the entire unincorporated Los Angeles County area.

This is a small town, and our Council is very responsive to the concerns of residents in my experience — the re-restriping of Decoro Drive being a great example — and has broader responsibilities to the city as a whole than catering to the displeasures of a small number of malcontents.

Then you close with the usual implications of corruption. The usual drivel from SCOPE — and apparently its supporters — every time a project is approved or a shovel of earth turned in this valley.

Puh-leeze. That horse is so old it should be turned into glue.
