The William S. Hart PONY League 10U All-Stars bounced back from a loss in the Mustang World Series by winning Game 2 on Thursday.

Hart Mustang defeated Keller, Texas 5-0, setting up today’s final pool-play game.

The local team plays Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico today at 6:30 p.m. Central time.

Sinaloa is 2-0 in the pool. It defeated Joliet, Ill. on Thursday 4-3.

Joliet defeated Hart Mustang on Wednesday 5-4.

If Hart Mustang beats Sinaloa and Joliet beats 0-2 Keller, then three teams will be 2-1 in pool play.

“Unfortunately, we put ourselves in a precarious position,” said Hart Mustang head coach Jerry Miller.

The first tiebreaker would be head-to-head and if the three teams were 2-1, it would cancel that out. The next tiebreaker is runs allowed. Hart Mustang has surrendered five runs, Sinaloa six and Joliet has given up eight.

On Thursday, pitcher J.T. Shroud went the distance, going six innings, allowing three hits and two walks, while striking out 10. He was also 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.

Catcher Ryan Carolan threw out two base runners attempting to steal.

Caden Miller went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Cody Jefferis was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Cole Roederer went 2-for-3.

Hart Mustang put a run across in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Caden Miller, then added two more runs in the third and a pair more in the fourth.

After struggling in the field and on the mound on Wednesday, Hart Mustang went back to being a dependable defensive and pitching team.

“It was the exact opposite (of Wednesday),” Jerry Miller said. “It was amazing how different it was. The boys played good defense. The boys were scrappy. (Keller) had some really good pitchers. We pushed runs across with good fundamental baseball.”

The championship bracket of the tournament begins Saturday with two teams from each division advancing.
