Sequoia Charter School Principal Kathy Hunter has been appointed as the Hart district’s coordinator of student services, officials said Thursday.

The William S. Hart Union High School District board approved the decision Wednesday night, and Hunter begins her new position today.

As coordinator of student services, Hunter is responsible for attendance, boundaries, expulsions and suspensions, counseling and guidance and student transfers. She will also oversee the district’s drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse programs, including the Comprehensive Alcohol and Drug Reduction and Education program and the voluntary random drug-testing program.

Hunter, who has worked for the Hart district since 1998, was selected out of nearly 80 applicants.

“Kathy brings a strong background in behavioral intervention and special education that uniquely equips her for this important position,” said Rob Gapper, assistant superintendent of human relations. “She is an advocate for students, and her experience as a principal at Sequoia will serve the students of this district well.”
