Reject private libraries in SCV

I strongly oppose the proposal for the city to take over the three county libraries in Santa Clarita. What’s the point? There is no way a new city library can provide the vast array of books, magazines, professional journals, CDs, DVDs, microfilm, etc. now available to Santa Clarita residents through the Los Angeles County library system, let alone do so at a cost savings.

Nor do I believe for one minute the claim that the city can provide comparable services at lower cost.

I am also very concerned about the potential for censorship by religious or political special-interest groups to further limit what kind of literature and resource material is available to the community. Does our city government really need to add this to its workload? I hope all Santa Clarita library patrons will urge City Council members to reject this misguided proposal, and plan to attend the public hearing on Aug. 24.
