Local music professor receives state award

Lawrence Stoffel, a Santa Clarita Valley resident and Director of Bands at CSUN, has received the 2010 John Swain College/University Educator Award.

 

Lawrence Stoffel, a Santa Clarita Valley resident and Director of Bands at California State University Northridge (CSUN), was presented the 2010 John Swain College/University Educator Award by the California Music Educators Association.

Stoffel is known for lecturing on and publishing a broad range of topics related to music, promoting music programs in public schools and showing enthusiasm at rehearsals and concerts. He joined CSUN's faculty in 2004 and is the second faculty member to receive this award.

The California Music Educators Association aims to promote music education for students pre-kindergarten through grade 12, support existing music programs and create partnerships with other similar organizations.

CMEA bestows the John Swain College/University Educator Award to college and university educators who have made an impact on students, other educators and music education as a whole.
