Erosion of religious freedom

Despite it being part of our First Amendment rights, the “free exercise” of religion in America is being eroded by the Obama administration in its public pronouncements. Instead of the constitutionally guaranteed “freedom of religion,” the president and his secretary of state have begun to publicly replace the phrase with “freedom of worship.”

This anemic term is a much narrower, international view of religious freedom. It follows a U.N. concept that merely means the right to pray within the confines of a place of worship or to privately believe — as in China. It excludes the right to “practice your religion” by raising your children in your faith; the right to have religious literature, radio or television; the right to meet with co-religionists or to evangelize, or to have religious education.

Removing “religious freedom” from the public square is the work of dictators, not democratic leaders.
