Seniors need health care reform

Here we go again. America’s insurance industry and its allies in Congress are trying to kill health care reform. This time, the strategy is to scare seniors into believing that cutting billions in government giveaways to private insurers offering Medicare Advantage plans is somehow the same thing as benefit cuts in Medicare. What nonsense.

No one seems to notice that the only threats to cut benefits during this entire health care debate are coming from the insurers themselves, not the president and not Congress. In fact, the proposals being considered now would actually improve my Medicare benefits and make the program more efficient for all of us.

The bottom line is, if we don’t pass comprehensive health care reform to slow down the rising costs of health care, then Medicare will soon have a big fat target on its back for massive cuts — and you can be sure these future cuts really will target beneficiaries. Seniors need health care reform because doing nothing is just not an option.
