Embrace change

The first through-the-night flight ever by a solar-powered plane, the Solar Impulse, lasted 26 hours and 9 minutes. The battery-equipped aircraft landed with more charge on its batteries than it had at takeoff. This historic event happened on July 9.

It appears that so many who have bought into the corporate fossil-fuel lies about the inability for alternative energy sources to power our future on this small planet we all call home completely ignore the facts of clean-energy progress. An aircraft powered by the sun flew all day and all night.

We stand at a crossroads as a nation, led by a president who is unafraid of the change required for us to progress into the future; a president who, if America was restricted to the outcomes predicted by the so-called conservatives, would not have been elected. Most Americans, unlike conservatives, are not afraid of change.

We embrace positive forward movement in our national quest to form a more perfect union. The horse gave way to the automobile, the sailing ship gave way to the powered vessels and dirty fossil fuels will give way to clean renewable energy.

There will be job displacement and corporate restructuring as progress moves ever forward as predictable as the next sunrise or sunset, the ancient jobs of sail-making have diminished and hold none of their former power to determine how most people are transported across bodies of water, and even the horses that empowered Genghis Khan to conquer Asia and our forefathers to spread across this continent no longer determine the outcomes of combat or the migration patterns of human populations.

Fossil fuels will be replaced, the jobs dependent upon them will be replaced and anyone who doubts these inescapable facts is either a liar or completely ignorant of both history and the indomitable will of the human spirit.

My hope is that Americans will continue to lead the way for the modern world with innovations and creations, rebuilding our infrastructure and manufacturing base so we can sell/supply the physical assets of our collective genius to the world.

Clearly, as their diminishing numbers nationally predict, the conservative corporate Republican boot-licking naysayers will be swept aside by the majority of Americans unafraid to boldly create the change needed to ensure we stay No. 1.

America has a future limited only by our willingness to shape it by our hard work and determination. That is what I mean by American values, and that is why we have to vote for the Democrats who are committed to progress for the American people and not be misled by the propaganda of the international corporatism that controls the national Republican Party.
