New York mosque is insensitive

Just when you think nothing more tasteless, insensitive or offensive could come along, something new happens that is even more despicable. Now, Muslims in America plan to build a huge 13-story mosque next to Ground Zero.

Of all the places in America where they could build without being too insensitive, they plan to erect this mosque at the very place where fanatics of their religion flew an airplane into the World Trade Center and killed some 3,000 innocent people.

Apparently, politicians are agreeing to this travesty. Is there no limit to how far we will go in this country in the interest of political correctness? Are we so afraid of those who have vowed to conquer us that we will put up with any insult?

Where is the outcry from citizens who should be outraged at this obvious mockery of the worst such loss in our history? Has political correctness replaced common sense to this degree?

I have a friend who admits to being a Muslim. He assures me most Muslims are good people who don’t advocate terror. He points out that many have sacrificed much for out country; even given their lives in war. Like many others, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, he points out that our Constitution guarantees religious freedom, and this should include Islam.

Certainly our Bill of Rights gives these Muslims the right to build anyplace that is zoned for it. But just because they have the right, does it make it the right thing to do? After all, how much religious freedom would we usurp if we insisted the mosque be erected someplace else?

So where are these good people, these nonviolent Muslims now? Where is their sense of public relations?

Why are they not recognizing that disrespecting what should be hallowed ground for all Americans is an outrage?
