If you work hard and make money, you should be allowed to purchase the material goods that you enjoy. This is the American way of life.
The freedom of little government interference with our lives to pursue happiness is a gift that the Founding Fathers fought to give to posterity.
However, an entirely different question is necessary during tough economic times when gas is flirting with five dollars a gallon: Just because you have the freedom to do something, does that mean that it is wise to do so?
Will your actions, such as driving around in an SUV that you really do not need, contribute to your country’s well-being, or will it actually hinder it?
By no means should we wastefully consume that which is a rare commodity when it will hurt the economic well-being of our country.
Once again, the oil shortage comes down to the basic economics of supply and demand.
SUV lovers, end your love affair with the just-for-the heck-of-it consumption that is driving oil prices up the wall. No government should force you to do so, but it is my duty as a concerned American to ask you to do so.
Take it or leave it. It is your freedom of choice in the greatest nation ever to be built.
