Soften at the source

I would like to put forth a question about why are we treating water after the fact.

I’m sure the people of Santa Clarita wouldn’t be so bothered if the treatment of the water started at the pumping stations that we get our water from.

This way, everyone would get the benefit of softer water when they turn on the tap, not when it’s flushed down the drain.

We have had new plumbing and new appliances replaced only to have to buy items to keep them from becoming clogged from the water that comes into our house. We can’t afford a water softener, and salt-based ones are banned here.

I think the majority who don’t use the softeners would probably agree it’s better to filter at the source, rather than after the fact.
