A 39-year-old Acton handyman was charged with begging after alledgedly asking people for money at a local gas station.

Sheriff’s deputies approached the man Tuesday at about 6 p.m. after reportedly seeing him approach several stopped motorists and then ask them for money, according to a sheriff’s official.

“When (deputies) started talking to him, they realized that his wife had a warrant outstanding for her arrest,” said Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies discovered that both the man and his wife had suspended driver’s licenses, she said, and both were taken to the Sheriff’s Station for further questioning.
