There'll be a whole lot of shredding going on today, but it won't involve squealing electric guitars.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station is teaming up with the city to host a Safe and Secure Community Shred and E-Waste Disposal Day.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sheriff's Station, at the corner of Magic Mountain Parkway and Valencia Boulevard.

"Working together through programs like this one, we hope to raise awareness of how we can better protect ourselves against identity theft and rid our homes and offices of unwanted clutter at the same time," sheriff's Capt. Anthony La Berge said in a statement.

During the disposal event, people will be allowed to drop off up to five boxes per car of all types of paper empty binders, unwanted or expired credit cards and computer disks.

The materials will be shredded on site.

The aim of the event is to help residents get rid of sensitive materials.

Currently, identity theft is number six on the list of the FBI's top eight priorities, behind counterterrorism, counterintelligence, cyber-crime, public corruption and civil rights.
