FVCC's new pastor to address congregration
The Friendly Valley Community Church, an interdenominational fellowship sponsored by the United Methodist Church will hear its new pastor, Stan Fix, Sunday at 10 a.m. speak on "No fear." The church is at 19246 Avenue of the Oaks in Newhall.

Oak Hill hosts its first men's retreat
Oak Hill Bible Church, a nondenominational Christian church, will hold their first men's retreat Sept. 26 through 29 at New Melones Lake in central California. Daily Bible lessons, prayer and fellowship will be the focus of the trip. Houseboats will be utilized to maximize the camaraderie of men seeking a closer relationship with God. Recreation including water sports, relays and boating are planned, as well. Space is limited so sign up at www.oakhillbible.com.

Author Moore addressing Heart
Christian author Beth Moore will deliver a message to an estimated 80,000 women on Aug. 1-2 from Louisville, Ky. Local residents will be able to see the broadcast from Southern Christian Church at Heart of the Canyon Church. The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug. 1 and from 8:30 a.m. to noon the next day. Both broadcasts will be held at La Mesa Junior High, located at 26623 May Way in Canyon Country. Buddhist offers meditation services
Jonathan Kraut, a local Buddhist, will be offering monthly meditation services on the second Thursday of every month at his home sanctuary in Canyon Country. For directions, call Jonathan at (661) 618-1105.

Hope-n-mic offered at New Nazarene
Every third Thursday of the month, Newhall Church of the Nazarene will host "Hope-n-Mic," a new open mic forum for Christian musicians and their friends. Guests are invited to come and play their music or to stop in and listen. All ages and musical styles are welcome, provided the lyrics are appropriate to a Christian audience. Piano, keyboard, amps, sound systems and drums are provided. Bring any other instrument you want. Newhall Church of the Nazarene, also known as the "New Naz," is at 23857 The Old Road in Newhall, off of Calgrove Boulevard.

Speakers series planned at CBS
Congregation Beth Shalom will present guest speakers and relevant sermon topics during a special musical theme prayer service on the second Friday evening of each month. The inaugural "Special Topics" Shabbat Service on Friday will feature Rabbi Ira Rosenfeld, who will examine how the journey of the ancient Israelites is so important in making sense of own experiences, celebrations and struggles.
