A pedestrian was killed Sunday morning when a car ran off of Soledad Canyon Road and onto a sidewalk just west of Gailxy Avenue in Canyon Country, sheriff's officials said.

Eric Gilhooley, 15, of Canyon Country, died at the scene, said Los Angeles County coroner's Capt. John Kades.

The 47-year-old driver of a Chevy Suburban received scratches.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies made no arrests in the crash. Detectives were investigating the crash Monday and had released few details, except that the Suburban hit the curb and overturned and that drugs and alcohol probably weren't involved.

Gilhooley died when the Suburban crashed about 10:20 a.m. on westbound Soledad Canyon Road, said Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's Sgt. Cortland Myers. No other vehicles were involved.

Authorities shut down the westbound part of the road for hours after the crash.

See Tuesday's Signal for an update on the investigation.
