Don’t blame the city

Regarding the fatal car crash that killed a mother and injured others on July 4: The crash was totally preventable, had the 22-year-old woman driving the Infiniti made a better choice and not run the red light. Period.

It’s amazing to me how Lorena Escobar (“Independence Day crash was preventable,” July 8) and others she spoke with feel that it’s the city’s fault for the woman’s death because they didn’t block off the street.

No, it is not. The 22-year-old woman is responsible. In a society where it seems so commonplace to pass-the-buck, the fact is she made a not-so-wise choice, and the consequence of that choice is that she walked away from a mangled car after colliding with another vehicle, injuring others and accidentally killing one innocent person. Period. She will have to live with that decision for the rest of her life.

I pray that she has the gumption to take responsibility for her actions and apologize to the grieving family and those she injured.

Sincere apologies and an offering to make things right go a long way with folks.
