Spotted on a city shelter Web site by one of the devoted, hard-working board members of New Leash on Life, she couldn’t believe Sprocket was scheduled to be euthanized due to having easily treatable demodectic mange. Immediately a volunteer from New Leash on Life was dispatched to South L.A. to rescue little Sprocket.

Sprocket is a 4-month old, male, small size terrier/mixed breed good with other dogs and good with cats.
“What a great save Sprocket has turned out to be,” said Sarah Fraze, marketing and event coordinator of New Leash On Life Animal Rescue.

Energy and personality to spare, Sprocket can’t wait to get out of his kennel to play and run around like any other puppy. He is more than happy to make friends with any dog, regardless of size — his friends include a 5-pound Doxie puppy and a 65-pound Coonhound.

His daily medicines and special weekly baths at the vet mean that Sprocket’s mange is clearing up very quickly. Not that this has ever stopped him from enjoying life. If you have the energy to keep up with this 5 pound octane-fueled puppy then fill out an online application at www.newleash.org. (661) 255-0097. New Leash on Life will host Nuts for Mutts the Walk on Oct. 19. www.nutsformutts.org/walk.
