G.J. Guevara
Private G.J. Guevara, 21, of Canyon Country, graduated from the United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on May 21, Private Guevara successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD San Diego as one of 353 recruits in Traning Platoon 3249. Following 10 days home on leave he reported to Camp Pendleton for Military Combat Training then on 29 Palms for Military Communications School.

Rachel L. Jasso
Navy Seaman Rachel L. Jasso, daughter of Roberta J. Castaneda, of Gilbert, Arizona, and Joseph A. Garbutt, of Castaic, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois.

During the eight-week program, Jasso completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations”. This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. “Battle Stations” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly ‘’Navy’’ flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
Jasso is a 1997 graduate of Dobson High School in Mesa, Arizona.

Ari R. Ailin
Army Pvt. Ari R. Ailin has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Missouri.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship qualification, bayonet combat, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, marches, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values.

Ailin is a 2005 graduate of Saugus High School.

Heriberto Teran
Army Pvt. Heriberto Teran has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Missouri.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship qualification, bayonet combat, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, marches, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values.

He is the son of Maria Rodriguez, of Newhall.

Teran is a 2008 graduate of William S. Hart High School in Newhall.

Diego F. Martinez

Air Force Airman Diego F. Martinez graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Gloria Martinez, of Newhall.

Martinez is a 2009 graduate of Canyon High School, in Canyon Country.

Kevin R. Carrington
Kevin R. Carrington has entered Basic Cadet Training at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, in preparation to enter the first academic year at the academy.  The six-week, two-phase orientation program must be successfully completed by the cadets prior to entering their freshman year. The training prepares men and women to meet the rigorous mental and physical challenges experienced by new cadets.

Phase one involves personal in-processing, orientation, and training in the fundamentals of being a cadet.  Cadet trainees are prepared to adjust from civilian to military life and disciplines, and learn proper wear of the uniform, saluting policies and procedures, drill and ceremony, marching, and living quarters standards.

During phase two, cadets train outdoors, living in tents while learning to function in field conditions.  Cadets apply and practice team work, cohesion and learn to deal with physically and mentally demanding situations.  They complete the obstacle, confidence, assault, and leadership reaction courses, and participate in a rescue mission termed Operation Warrior.

He is the son of Amy and Geddes Carrington, of Valencia. Carrington is a 2010 graduate of Valencia High School in Valencia.

Ryan Joseph Marko
United States Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Ryan Joseph Marko, son of Joseph and Sue Marko, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, on May 28.

He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.

2nd Lt. Marko successfully completed four years of intensive academic, physical and professional training, resulting in a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in engineering and history.

As a graduate of the Naval Academy, 2nd Lt. Marko completed a four year, total immersion program where a strong, balanced academic program, focused on the educational needs of the Navy and Marine Corps is superimposed on a strict professional military training environment emphasizing the development of leadership skills.

Following graduation, 2nd Lt. Marko has been assigned temporary duty at the Naval Academy, prior to pilot training.

Considered one of the top educational institutions in the country, the U.S. Naval Academy was founded in 1845 and has graduated more than 60,000 men and women as Naval and Marine Corps officers.

Its graduates include 4,000 admirals and generals, one president, 200 members of Congress, three governors, 73 Medal of Honor winners, one Nobel Prize winner and 40 astronauts.

The Naval Academy current has more than 4,000 students who comprise the brigade of midshipman and who come from every state in the union.

2nd Lt. Marko is a 2002 graduate of Saugus High School and enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduation.

2nd Lt. Marko achieved the rank of Sgt. prior to being accepted at the Naval Academy.

2nd Lt. Marko’s home of record is now Caldwell, Idaho.

Christian G. Silva
Air Force Airman Christian G. Silva graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. He is the son of Evelyn Silva of Canoga Park and brother of Christopher Silva of Stevenson Ranch. Silva is a 2009 graduate of North Hollywood High School, in North Hollywood.

Trevor A. Schultz
 Trevor A.
