Accused coach’s hearing rescheduled to late Aug.

Kevin Thomas accused of sexually assaulting teen girls

Facing the accusations of several high school girls, jailed coach Kevin Thomas’ preliminary hearing was rescheduled Thursday to Aug. 28, a court official said.

The 40-year-old teaching assistant at a Van Nuys high school was a volunteer coach at Canyon High School, and was arrested June 10 after several girls at Birmingham High School said they were sexually assualted by Thomas. Investigators have reported that several videotapes of the assualts were in Thomas’ possession.

On Monday, investigators with the Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau reported that two more girls accused Thomas of assaulting them. While none of Thomas’ accusers were from Santa Clarita, he had been giving lessons to three girls on the Canyon High basketball team.

He is charged with five counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object with the alleged victims unconscious of the act. He is also charged with five counts of sexual penetration of a person under the age of 18, one count of a performing a lewd act on a child and one count of possessing child pornography.

Thomas remains in custody at Men’s Central Jail in lieu of $600,000 bail.
