Santa Clarita resident Kevin R. Rodgers was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor held on June 26 at Masters College. Eagle Scout is the highest and most coveted award from Boy Scouts of America.
Rodgers, who will be sophomore at American University in Washington D.C. this fall, was presented his award by his parents, Steve and Beth Rodgers, as well as assistant scoutmasters Henry Mowry and Jim Beydler, both Eagle Scouts. Steve Rodgers has been his son’s Troop 2 scoutmaster for three years. For his Eagle Scout project, Kevin Rodgers designed and built a shade shelter at Vasquez Rocks.
The shelter, which is now used by visitors to the wilderness area, was assembled under Kevin’s direction by eight adult leaders and 44 individual scouts. The project took 330 combined man-hours to complete. He is currently working as a summer intern in the office of Assemblyman Cameron Smyth.
