Thanks for the kindness

Until 1989, my husband and I were residents of Santa Clarita. We have a daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren who still live in your city.

My grandson is a freshman at one of your local high schools and is active in its ROTC program. He is on the four-man rifle drill team and was just appointed to the position of logistics officer. He is very proud of both these accomplishments and enjoys his time with ROTC, including his campouts in San Luis Obispo in spite of some of its more difficult activities.

Upon learning of his promotions, I sent him a check for him to spend or save as he wished. His mother usually deposits any check he receives and gives him the cash. Imagine my confusion this week when I not only received another wonderful “thank you” note from my grandson, but also, in another envelope with no return address, the check I had written to him.

I immediately e-mailed my daughter, told her what had happened and then it all became clear. When going to the bank she had the check in one of her pockets and did not realize it had fallen out onto the ground. Some good and honest Santa Clarita resident found it and sent it back to me using the name and address that was on the check.

I am writing this to thank that anonymous Good Samaritan for his or her honesty and act of kindness. I hope others reading this will do likewise, so this will spread to others. I promise that I will do the same.

So, my anonymous Good Samaritan, thank you, again, and God bless you as well.
