The Latin fusion band “Incendio” will kick off this year’s free “Concerts in the Park” series in Central Park tonight at 7 p.m.

“It is a kid-friendly event,” said Jenni Shandle, arts and events coordinator for the city of Santa Clarita, which sponsors the annual concert series. “You can definitely bring your family, picnic basket and blanket.”

But she reminded concertgoers that alcohol and barbecues are not allowed in the park.

If you don’t feel like lugging a picnic basket, don’t worry, Shandle said. Whole Foods Market sells enchilada casserole dinners for $5 a plate.

The free concerts at Central Park are among the more popular events sponsored by the city and draw thousands of people each year.

City spokesman Mike Fleming urged those who plan to attend to get there a little early to get a good spot. The city is expecting 2,000 to 3,000 people tonight, he said.

The concerts will be held every Saturday evening through Aug. 28.

“We like to provide this kind of entertainment and artistic upliftment for the citizens of Santa Clarita,” Fleming said.
