I would like to let readers know about a fantastic program that wasn't mentioned.
The city of Santa Clarita offers adaptive swim lessons, designed for individuals with special needs, ages 5 and up.
Kids and adults who have developmental delays and/or physical differences can sign up for these special lessons taught by instructors who have been trained in American Red Cross Adaptive Aquatics.
Classes are taught at the recently remodeled Newhall Pool and are taking place through Aug. 22. Readers can call the aquatics department at (661) 250-3766 for more information.
Swim lessons are important for everyone, and even more so for children who have autism or similar conditions that may cause them to be attracted to water and have limited safety awareness.
We thank the city of Santa Clarita for offering this great program every summer.
