UPDATED: 5.4 quake hits Borrego Springs, felt in SCV

An earthquake measuring 5.4 hit Borrego Springs, Calif. at about 4:53 p.m. today.

The U.S. Geological Survey initially reported the temblor as a 5.9.

Residents in the Santa Clarita Valley felt the quake, which was centered about 13 miles north-northwest of the community west of the Salton Sea.
