After a five year hiatus, Leadership SCV, a nonprofit program that prepares local residents for community leadership, will begin offering 10-month courses this September. The program is open to all interested residents.

Approximately 20 participants will attend monthly meetings which detail aspects of how the city functions, including local nonprofit leadership, business, media, government and history.

Leaders in the SCV recognize that the future of our community depends on those who get involved in local issues, nonprofits and new business development, the city of Santa Clarita said.

"We're looking at providing resources to the next tier of leaders in the Santa Clarita Valley," said Chris Clark, co-chair of the Leadership SCV program. "Because Santa Clarita's success depends on strong future community leaders, we are bringing them the tools from many different fields to learn as much as possible about what our community needs are today and what they will be in the future."

The program will also discuss important leadership skills, such as how to give an effective presentation.

Supporters of the program see real long-term benefits to the community.

"Effective leadership helps our community and nation through times of peril." said Paul De La Cerda, co-chair of Leadership SCV. "Without leadership, organizations will move too slowly, stagnate and lose their way. Santa Clarita Valley is rapidly diversifying and it is vital for community members of all walks of life to take advantage of Leadership SCV and help strengthen our valley."
