Senior lunch menu
Available Monday through Friday at the SCV Senior Center in Newhall. Meals are also available when you call one day ahead at Bouquet Canyon Seniors, Monday through Friday, (661) 513-9479, and available Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Masonic Lodge in Friendly Valley (661) 299-4595.
Monday – Center closed
Tuesday – Beef stew
Wednesday – Knockwurst or crabby cakes

The SCV Senior Center is located at 22900 Market St. in Newhall. For a detailed monthly calendar, call the center at (661) 259-9444. All the following activities will occur at the SCV Senior Center, unless otherwise indicated.

Fibromyalgia support group
Support group meeting second Saturday of every month, 10:30 to noon. Info: (661) 270-1961 or harmnyz@msn.com.

Santa Clarita Swing Jazz Club
Listen and dance along to live swing music from 2-5 p.m., fourth Sunday of every month. $7-$10. Info: (661) 254-4220 or (661)  298-7865.

Senior Orchestra seeks players
Bring your instrument and join the fun, all instruments and skill levels welcome, 4 p.m, Thursdays, Bouquet Canyon Senior Apartments, multipurpose room, 26705 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus. Info: (661) 298-9553 or (661) 296-4977.

Health Lectures and Clinics
Free blood pressure screening takes place in activity Room 3 each Wednesday from noon-1 p.m.

Educational and technical training
Archaeology and anthropology: Wednesday, 9:30-11:10 a.m. with Fred Rice of USC and Cal State Northridge.
Computer training (beginning, intermediate, advanced in Windows and Mac): Call the Center for information.
Computer training for the visually impaired: Monday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, 12-2 p.m.
Ham radio: Tuesday, 1-2 p.m.
 
Functional Fitness
At 8:30 a.m. Monday and Wednesday, we’re movin’ and groovin’, steppin’ and sweatin’ to the beat with ACE Certified Exercise Specialist Linda Bennett.
We’re the new and improved “middle age” 50-plus active adults. The program encompasses functional fitness — moves are designed to simulate ADLs (activities of daily living), and sports moves like golf, tennis, and skiing. We do cardiovascular training, muscle and bone building, core stabilization, and spatial awareness for balance – all within one hour. If you’re not quite ready for the fast and furious fitness, at 9:45 a.m. there is a great 30-minute chair class that will suit you. Call the Senior Center at 259-9444, or Linda Bennett at 993-3969.
