Santa Clarita Valley Troop 6562: Katie Tamura, Lexie Brown, Nicole Stephani, Brooke Axton and Jacqueline Watson. The Girl Scouts of Troop 6562 recently volunteered to help break down the weekly Arlington West memorial during sunset.

The Scouts learned about the Fallen Soldiers of Iraq and Afghanistan (4,558 soldiers as of date of the memorial the Scouts attended).

The girls respectfully took down crosses representing each soldier.  Each girl made sure to state the soldier’s name and say “Thank you and God bless you” before placing the cross away.  Each Sunday from sunrise to sunset, a temporary memorial appears next to the world-famous pier at Santa Monica. This memorial, known as Arlington West, is a project of Veterans For Peace, and offers visitors a place for reflection and remembrance. For more information about the memorial, visit www.arlingtonwestsantamonica.org.
