Absolute power corrupts

The Santa Clarita City Council approved, by a 4-1 vote, to raise the individual contribution limit to $1,000 from $360. Only Councilman Bob Kellar voted against it (thank you, Bob).

Council members Frank Ferry, Laurie Ender, Laurene Weste and Marsha McLean expressed no guilt or shame in their votes.

A look at their eyes told you that this was royal prerogative — bigger checks from fatter cats was their birthright.

Whatever it takes to keep them elected is what will be done. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. We have this by the fine example of our City Council.

The last time the limit was raised to $360, the original proposal was for $1,000 but there were lots of people protesting that, so then-Councilman Cameron Smyth proposed $360 as a “compromise.” Even back then you could see his legislative talents at a glance.

This new contribution level will help Ferry put the developmental terrorists in their place. According to Ferry, a developmental terrorist is someone who doesn’t agree with him. These people are anathema and must be destroyed. This is what it’s come to.

You get what you vote for.
