Four-time Grammy-winning rock singer Pat Benatar and her producer/guitarist husband Neil Giraldo will open the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons' 2009-2010 season with a concert on Friday, Sept. 11.

"Yes, I can confirm that," said Adam Philipson, PAC managing director, when contacted Friday night, adding, "We're incredibly excited to have Pat and Neil open our season."

Philipson said COC would reveal the rest of the talent lineup for the upcoming season on Friday, June 12.

Benatar debuted in 1979 with the album "In the Heat of the Night" and became one of the most popular, best-selling rock artists of the 1980s.

She has a dozen studio albums to her credit, including 1981's "Precious Time," her third, which hit No. 1 on the Billboard pop album chart, and her most recent, 2003's "Go," a Top 10 hit on Billboard's independent albums chart, and her first album after a five-year hiatus.

Benatar's four Grammys, all in the "Best Female Rock Vocal Performance" category, are for her second album, "Crimes of Passion" (1980) and the singles "Fire and Ice" (1981), "Shadows of the Night" (1982) and "Love is a Battlefield" (1983).

Giraldo, guitarist and musical arranger for Benatar's band starting with her debut album, began producing tracks for her during the "Crimes of Passion" sessions, and has produced almost everything she has recorded since. The two became romantically involved and eventually married, on Feb. 20, 1982.

The Sept. 11 date at the Performing Arts Center is one of the final dates on Benatar and Giraldo's summer tour, which begins June 26 in Daytona Beach.
