Installer Javier Alvarado carries one of the 202 solar panels that will be placed on the roof of the new Newhall County Water District administration building in Newhall on Thursday. The solar panels incorporated into the building’s roof line will supply more than 50 percent of the office building’s energy needs. The water district’s new $7.5 million headquarters, located at 23780 N. Pine St., is LEED certified. The building boasts nontoxic paints and carpets, and pervious pavement in the parking lot so that the ground can soak up rainwater. The architecture of the building allows for lots of natural light, with skylights and windows allowing daylight into 75 percent of the building’s 14,000 square-feet of interior space. The district’s 31 employees moved in earlier this month.
