In sports, and in every walk of life, patience is a virtue.

Canyon's 2009-2010 athletic season helped prove that patience pays off.

After three straight years of 6-4 finishes in league, and a 7-19 overall finish during the 08-09 season, the Cowboys girls basketball team underwent a facelift to win the program's first Foothill League title since 1973. Yet the play of Brooke Lemar and her squad was equally matched by their male counterparts.

After finishing last season with an 8-19 record, the Cowboys boys basketball team, led by Wesley Bartole, rebounded to go 20-9, including a third-round playoff run.

Led by the lockdown goalkeeping of Andrew Wilson and golden foot of Mohammed Roknipour, Canyon boys soccer repeated as league champs.

Canyon's boys track and field team also claimed a league title and Kevin Enge, inspired by his mother who died in April of 2009, won a CIF-Southern Section high jump championship.

Now, for the first time in as long as any avid Canyon fan can remember, the football team must be patient in re-establishing itself as a league powerhouse. The potentially record-setting combination of Drew Wolitarsky and Jonathan Jerozal may be the key in doing so.

As you can tell, Canyon might not have to wait longer to experience more success.

Sept. 11
Canyon football (0-1) drops its opener 43-7 to Bakersfield. The Cowboys allow Drillers quarterback Brian Burrell to amass 278 total yards and score four times. Canyon freshman Drew Wolitarsky is the lone bright spot for the offense, catching five passes for 83 yards.
