Nearly 11 percent of Santa Clarita residents smoke cigarettes according to a report released by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Tuesday. Overall about 14 percent of county residents smoke, a rate that has remained steady since 2002, according to the report.

Public Health officials predict that about 13,600 city residents smoke regularly.

Quartz Hill and Lancaster have the highest smoking rates in the county at nearly 22 percent each. The report is intended to inform tobacco control policy in the county and state.
