Free treatments to help Locks of Love

Stylists at Salon Glo in Valencia will offer a free Kerastase conditioning treatment and blow dry for a suggested $10 donation to Locks of Love on Wednesday.

As a stylist and co-owner of Valencia's Salon Glo, Dan Csicai knows how important a great head of hair is to his clients. It's even more important to children or teens who have lost their hair due to cancer or alopecia.

When Csicai appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2006 as part of a makeover team, the models' shorn locks were given to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization devoted to providing hair pieces to disadvantaged patients under the age of 21.
When a cancer victim received a wig that day, she was overcome with emotion, Csicai recalled.

"She cried. It was amazing. It's so important, especially when you're a kid, to fit in with everyone and not just to be seen as someone who's sick," he said.

That's why Salon Glo is partnering with Kerastase, an upscale line of professional hair products, as part of a national effort to provide a free Kerastase conditioning treatment and blow dry for a suggested donation of $10 or more to Locks of Love from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on June 23. The service would usually cost $70.

"Kerastase focuses on the special needs each client has with a specifically formulated conditioner. There are treatments for every hair type," Csicai said.

Salon Glo's staff of 26 stylists can accommodate up to 300 appointments on June 23 and have already booked close to half that number. "It's all we are doing all day, we are giving our time," Csicai said.

"It's for a cause and also a way to express our appreciation to our clients. When you combine all those things, it makes for one really good day."

Salon Glo is located 23961 Newhall Ranch Road, Valencia. To make an appointment, call (661) 799-9300.
