A new local beverage company will be selling its product with a little star power behind it on Friday at the Saugus Under the Lights Passing Tournament.

Hart High graduate and Carolina Panthers starting quarterback Matt Moore will be at the passing tournament from 3 to 5 p.m. and signing autographs in support of Spartos — an all-natural protein water that the makers describe as the first of its kind.

Moore endorses the product.

Spartos is just three years old.

It was started by 2000 Hart High graduate Kirk Bardin, who grew sick of carrying around a shaker for his protein.

The first two years were spent in development. It has recently hit the open market.

Spartos has three different formulas — Spartos and Spartos Sugar Free (both with 10 grams of protein) and Goddess, which has five grams of protein and is marketed to women.

Joseph Aloisi Jr., the company’s business development manager, a 2000 Hart graduate and Moore’s longtime friend, said the drink is all natural and homegrown.

He said it is being sold in 10 locations in the Santa Clarita Valley, such as food marts, gas stations and gyms, and on Amazon.com. He said the company is hoping to sell it at Whole Foods in the near future.

“With Matt behind the product, we want to show it’s basically a homegrown product,” Aloisi Jr. said. “We’re keeping it local and expanding from there. We want to grow with Matt and show this product is not just for the superior athlete. It’s for people who want to stay healthy.”

Profits from sales of the drink at the passing tournament will be split between the Hart and Saugus football booster clubs.
All six Foothill League teams will play in the two-day tournament. Also playing will be Westlake, Oaks Christian, Notre Dame and Alemany amongst others.

Friday’s games being at 2 p.m.
