Blame the laws

I just finished reading Tom Pattantyus' column ("Jumping through hoops and over fences," June 4).

It is really a shame that everyone in California and Arizona - in fact, everyone in the U.S. - cannot read his account of what it took for him and his family to become American citizens.

In 1969, we obviously still had people in power who were trying to protect the citizens of this country. Whatever happened to the politicians who put country first?

Today, all they care about is votes to stay in power. We should have had our borders under control years ago if it wasn't for politics and special interests.

If we don't as a country wake up to what is happening, it is going to be too late. One only needs to read Clifford D. May's column on the June 5 Opinion page ("New national-security strategy borders on incoherent").

We all know about the Muslims that came to our country to learn to fly our big airliners, no questions asked. We all know about the three airliners manned with suicide-mentality Muslims, and we all know what happened on Sept. 11, 2001. We all know, but no one in government will admit that our immigration laws are to blame.

God bless America.
