The city of Santa Clarita will construct a Safe Route to School Improvements Project on streets adjacent to Mitchell, Peachland and Rosedell elementary schools beginning Monday, June 14.

Work on the Safe Route to School Project will include construction of bulb-outs at selected school crossings, sidewalk improvements, restriping crosswalks and upgrading existing school signage with oversized fluorescent yellow-green signage.

To ensure public safety during construction of bulb-outs at Goodvale Road and Solon Avenue, and Goodvale Road and Kenroy Road near Mitchell elementary school, the intersections will be closed to through traffic one intersection at a time.

The duration of road closures will be posted on the advance warning construction area signs.

Detour signs will also be placed at adjacent streets which will direct motorists to alternate nearby routes and safe pedestrian pathways will be provided through the project site at all times.

"The Safe Routes to School Project enhances student safety by reducing the speed of vehicles near school grounds and increasing the visibility of school crossings," Mayor Laurene Weste SAID. "The improvements will also allow students to safely walk and bike to school."
