Scared stiff of tea partiers

Regarding Jonathan Kraut's column entitled "Republicans toss tea party" (May 25): What an absurd commentary.

First of all, it's pretty rare to hear our own Revolution denigrated in such fashion. I'd call it pretty gutsy if leftists hadn't become so cavalier about trashing all traditional American institutions and values.

Instead, I'll call it just plain dumb. Kraut sounds like a colonial loyalist of the times, the people who wanted to remain subjects of the British crown.

Kraut writes: "The destruction of private property by throwing tea overboard is against the rule of law."

Well, yeah. So is revolting against your legally constituted government. Which is exactly what the revolutionaries did. Want to go back to being British?

He rattles on, conflating tea partiers and Republicans, clearly missing the whole point. Though it's true that most of the candidates whom tea partiers support happen to run as Republicans, ask Mitch McConnell - Senate Majority Leader and a backer of Rand Paul's opponent - just how "loyal" they are to the GOP.

All followed by the hackneyed "blame Bush" paragraphs. How long are you guys going to try to ride that dead horse, anyway?

Further, I thought the election of the messiah was supposed to fix all the "Bush problems." What happened?

Instead, your guys saw a fire and decided to throw gasoline on it. Bush was a profligate spender, no doubt about it. So the solution to that is to spend even more? They saw intrusive legislation and decided to pass legislation that was even worse. That's some plan.

The lefties are scared stiff of the tea partiers and what they represent, especially in upcoming elections.

Good. They should be.
