Russ Evans invited my wife and me to a small dancing class he conducts for the SCV Senior Center.
After a short session of directing my two left feet to the steps of East Coast Swing, we sat down to a fine lunch that cost us a $2 donation. During the lunch, we danced in a corner to a great sound coming from just four musicians.
I spent most of the time observing. There were hundreds, and the dining room was filled to capacity. Smiles, laughter, seniors greeting other seniors, and the ambiance of a fun and friendly environment were all around. Though they meet every weekday, you would think it was a long-awaited high school reunion.
Our local hospital has turned its back on seniors with thee elimination of the transitional care unit. If the city managers, elected officials and general citizenry refuse to adequately fund our Senior Center and it is forced to cut back services, we should all be so ashamed of ourselves.
Don’t allow apathy to ease your conscience. Support our seniors and the Senior Center. You ain’t getting any younger!
